DESCRIPTION:                \nGeneral Members Meeting of the VNC on Saturday\, May 10th\nIt’s time again for our annual General Members Meeting (ALV). We cordially invite members to attend on Saturday\, May 10th at our VNC office at Burgemeester van Karnebeeklaan 6\, The Hague. The meeting starts at 11:00 AM and promises to be an interesting\, engaging gathering with important updates and decisions. \nBettine Vriesenkoop\, member of the VNC Advisory Committee\, will speak after the meeting about her experiences with China in light of her upcoming VNC-supported trip to Shanghai. \nWhy your presence is important\nAs a member\, you are an indispensable part of the VNC. The meeting offers an excellent opportunity to look back on the past year and look forward together. Your input and involvement are therefore very important for the direction and activities of our association in the coming years. During the ALV\, insight will be provided into the activities of the past year\, and the opportunity will be offered to contribute ideas about the future\, such as the 50th anniversary of the VNC in 2026. \nAfter the ALV\, members and guests are invited to the Atrium for drinks and snacks during a briefing on current developments regarding China. \nThe official invitation and accompanying documents will be distributed and made available for viewing at least 14 days in advance\, in accordance with the statutes. Suggestions for agenda items and any other business are welcome (info@vnc-China.nl). OEY Toen Ping was born in the Netherlands\, attended primary school in Jakarta\, and studied sociology and sinology. In 1975\, he traveled to China for the first time with a study group from Tilburg University. Since then\, he has visited China dozens of times and witnessed the change and modernization of China up close. \nDuring his trips to China\, he has enjoyed hundreds of meals. Often\, he received explanations about the uniqueness\, ingredients\, and preparation methods of the dishes. Curious for more knowledge about Chinese cuisine (in China\, 8 main cuisines are distinguished)\, Mr. Oey visited training programs and schools for chefs and was able to take a look inside many Chinese kitchens. \nIn Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands\, alongside the ‘Chin.-Ind. dishes’\, more and more ‘original’ Chinese dishes are being included on the menus\, and we see (small) specialized restaurants appearing in many cities\, promoting dishes from Chinese regions. Curious about this new offering\, he began a search for ‘the flavors of China in the Netherlands’. After a while\, the idea for the VNC China Dining Club was born: let’s search together with more people for the ‘flavors of China in the Netherlands’. \nMr. Oey will take you on a journey in the Netherlands to taste special Chinese dishes and will share his knowledge about Chinese food with you. \nRegister here:

We were very impressed by the scope\, variety\, and beauty of this ceramics exhibition curated by a young ambitious Chinese junior curator. Therefore\, we want to organize two more visits this year. As last year\, the visits will be guided by this enthusiastic curator who brought the pieces to life with his stories and knowledge. We invite you on a journey through 5000 years of Asian ceramics. Discover the beautiful shapes and paintings of the bowls\, plates\, and statues. The objects tell stories about cultural practices and rituals\, such as drinking tea and burning incense\, or themes like immortality\, gods\, animals\, dragons\, and demons.       \nThe dates are confirmed: Thursday\, May 22 and Saturday\, September 27. Register in time to secure a spot. The maximum number of people per visit is 20. Guided tour is free for VNC members and €5 for non-members. Museum entrance fees are at your own expense!
