He served as General Counsel and later Head of Corporate Affairs at Nexperia\, guiding the company through strategic transitions in a complex geopolitical environment. \nBefore Nexperia\, Smit held senior legal roles at NXP\, Philips\, and Akzo Nobel. Since leaving Nexperia in 2024\, he has been an Associate Partner at Hague Corporate Affairs and FGS Global\, advising high-tech companies on strategic positioning in The Hague and Brussels. \nHe also serves as Chairman of the Dutch semiconductor cluster\, Business Cluster Semiconductors NL. \n \nRené Raaijmakers \nRené Raaijmakers (Oirschot\, The Netherlands\, 1960) started working as a science journalist immediately after completing his studies in chemistry. In the 1990s\, he wrote as a freelance contributor for NRC Handelsblad\, Intermediair\, Automatisering Gids and Computable\, among others\, about the ICT and semiconductor industry.\nIn 1999\, he founded Techwatch and launched Bits&Chips\, a trade and opinion magazine for the high-tech industry. Raaijmakers founded The High Tech Institute in 2011. He has written books about Philips Natlab and ASML and still contributes articles to Bits&Chips and High Tech Systems magazine.
