SUMMARY:November 17\, 2025 China Café: Finger on the Urban Pulse
DESCRIPTION:Understanding the People Behind the Market \nChinese cities are evolving at lightning speed\, becoming hubs of creativity\, innovation and cultural experimentation. But who are the people driving this transformation? In this China Café\, Elsbeth van Paridon\, a Beijing-based Dutch Sinologist who looks at China through the lens of fashion and urban culture\, a journalist at China’s only English newsweekly “Beijing Review” and founder of Chinatemper.com\, will guide us into the world of the modern Chinese urban dweller. The interview will be guided by Lianne Baaij\, VNC Board Member. \n \nLearn how young city residents navigate work\, lifestyle and social expectations\, how they express their identities through fashion and urban social trends\, and what motivates them as consumers\, colleagues\, and collaborators. This session offers Dutch entrepreneurs and professionals unique insights into the mindset\, values and ambitions of China’s new urban generation — and practical takeaways for building meaningful connections and successful partnerships. \nExplore the people behind the trends\, understand the cultural dynamics shaping their decisions\, and gain a fresh perspective on what it takes to engage effectively with China’s urban market today. \n \nAbout the speaker: \nVan Paridon has lived and worked in China for a total of 11 years at this point — not from the sidelines\, but at the very pulse of its media world. As a Sinologist and journalist with boots on the ground\, and in her capacity of reporter and video host for Beijing Review\, she brings a rare insider perspective on modern China. Through her unique lens of fashion\, urban life and youth culture\, Van Paridon uncovers the stories and cultural shifts that define the cities and people shaping today’s China. \nProgramm: \n17.00 – 17.45 hrs walkin and networking \n17.45 – 18.30 interview \n18.30 – 19.00 networking \nPlease register here:
