Your host is OEY Toen Ping.
Drs. OEY Toen Ping was born in the Netherlands, attended primary school in Jakarta, and studied sociology and sinology. In 1975, he traveled to China for the first time with a study group from Tilburg University. Since then, he has visited China dozens of times and witnessed the change and modernization of China up close.
During his trips to China, he has enjoyed hundreds of meals. Often, he received explanations about the uniqueness, ingredients, and preparation methods of the dishes. Curious for more knowledge about Chinese cuisine (in China, 8 main cuisines are distinguished), Mr. Oey visited training programs and schools for chefs and was able to take a look inside many Chinese kitchens.
In Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands, alongside the ‘Chin.-Ind. dishes’, more and more ‘original’ Chinese dishes are being included on the menus, and we see (small) specialized restaurants appearing in many cities, promoting dishes from Chinese regions. Curious about this new offering, he began a search for ‘the flavors of China in the Netherlands’. After a while, the idea for the VNC China Dining Club was born: let’s search together with more people for the ‘flavors of China in the Netherlands’.
Mr. Oey will take you on a journey in the Netherlands to taste special Chinese dishes and will share his knowledge about Chinese food with you.
