SUMMARY:Vloeiende Vormen - Een hedendaagse glaskunsttentoonstelling (4.7.2026 - 25.10.2026)
DESCRIPTION:Cultuur staat nooit stil.\nZe beweegt zoals de natuur — ze stroomt\, verandert en groeit. \nVloeiende Vormen onderzoekt hoe hedendaagse glaskunst de vloeibare en levendige aard van cultuur kan weerspiegelen. De tentoonstelling vindt plaats in de behangkamers van Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd\, naast het Chinese papier behang. Dit behang is één van Europa’s best bewaarde collecties handgeschilderde behangsels uit de Qing-dynastie\, een uitzonderlijk getuigenis van eeuwenlange culturele uitwisseling. De tentoonstelling laat zien hoe beelden\, ambachtelijke technieken en ideeën zich voortdurend door tijd en ruimte verplaatsen. \nGlas zelf\, kwetsbaar maar duurzaam\, vormt hierbij een krachtige metafoor voor migratie\, vernieuwing en de verbinding tussen traditie\, natuur en ons steeds veranderende gevoel van verbondenheid. Zestien kunstenaars integreren in hun werken de natuurlijke elementen uit de omgeving en verwijzingen naar de rijke geschiedenis van het landhuis\, waardoor dialogen ontstaan tussen binnen en buiten\, natuur en cultuur\, verleden en heden. \nDeze tentoonstelling wordt gepresenteerd door Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd in samenwerking met Oooit Art. Met dank aan Provincie Utrecht\, het Cultuurfonds\, mede mogelijk gemaakt door het Hugo van Win Glasfonds\, het Mondriaan Fonds\, het K.F. Hein Fonds en Excellence New Energy. \n

DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite friends interested in Chinese culture to our upcoming event: Mid-Autumn Festival: A Moonment to Remember – Discover Guangdong in the Netherlands\, on Tuesday\, 22 September\, from 15:00 to 17:00 at the China Cultural Center in The Hague. \nThe afternoon will bring the living traditions of Guangdong to The Hague: performances by the Southern Song and Dance Troupe\, including a martial arts dance inspired by Lingnan Wing Chun\, a Han-dynasty-inspired piece based on the “Jade Dancers\,” and a Chaozhou tea-ceremony dance. Guests will also be able to experience Guangdong’s intangible cultural heritage hands-on — Yue embroidery\, Foshan coloured lanterns\, and Cantonese mooncake making — complemented by traditional Guangdong delicacies.

DESCRIPTION:China has become Africa’s largest trading partner\, a major investor in infrastructure and a key political partner for governments across the continent. From railways and ports to mining\, manufacturing and digital infrastructure\, China’s presence in Africa has expanded dramatically over the past two decades. Yet despite the scale of this engagement\, many questions remain. Why has China been so successful in Africa? What has Beijing understood that others have not? And what lessons does Africa offer for policymakers\, businesses and development practitioners seeking to engage with the continent? \nIn this CKN Knowledge Session\, acclaimed author and economist Joe Studwell will explore Africa’s economic transformation through the lens of China’s growing role on the continent. Drawing on insights from his latest book How Africa Works\, Studwell challenges conventional narratives about African development and examines why some countries have achieved remarkable economic progress while others continue to struggle. \nThe discussion will address the factors behind Africa’s economic successes and failures and ask whether the most successful African economies share characteristics with the development trajectories that transformed East Asia\, including China. What role do effective state institutions\, land policies\, industrial development and investment strategies play?
