Brings China closer

VNC provides a platform for organizations dedicated to acquiring and sharing knowledge about China. We believe research in this field is essential and support it wherever possible. Below are four organizations engaged with China:
Leiden Asia Centre (LAC) is the leading Dutch knowledge institute that explains how Asia is reshaping the world today. LAC focuses on current developments in China, India, Indonesia, Japan and both Koreas, specifically in the fields of geopolitics, technology and climate. From fundamental research, training and strategy sessions to public events: LAC makes Asia’s influence understandable. Click here for the latest news.

Clingendael is a renowned international research institute that conducts studies on behalf of, among others, the Dutch government. It gathers, analyses, and – where possible – shares knowledge. Within Clingendael, there is a dedicated China department that maintains an international network of China experts and also hosts the coordination and secretariat of the China Knowledge Network.

Through research and analysis, this department contributes to the ongoing strategic debate that governments, businesses, and citizens are having about China’s influence in the world. For more information, click here.

WOWB (What’s on Weibo) is an independent platform focused on Chinese social media trends and digital culture. It was founded by Dutch sinologist Manya Koetse, who frequently appears in the media to provide insights into digital developments in China.

With a sharp eye on the Chinese internet landscape, Koetse explains the stories behind recent hashtags and trending topics through the website and the accompanying Weibo Watch newsletter. In doing so, she bridges the gap between Chinese and Western media and offers a glimpse into what matters to people in China.
