ChinaNU+

ChinaNU+ is the periodical of our Association.

Loose articles appear regularly on our website and are compiled into a digital edition 4 times a year. Members have free access to all articles on the site.

ChinaNU+ touches on all facets of China’s society as we, as an association, focus on: culture and society, economy and business, and education and science.

It is intended that the articles will be accessible to all our audiences.

Our periodical is older than the association and appeared in printed form until recently, but has been fully digital since 2024. ChinaNU+ is created by enthusiastic members of the association but is open to authors and experts from outside the association.

It is the desire to be multilingual in the future and through digital technology to link other media to ChinaNU+ as well.

New issue of China NU+

From the (interm) Editor-in-Chief

We are pleased to offer you this fall issue of ChinaNU+.

Unfortunately, the announced new editor-in-chief has not yet been able to launch. I am taking over for now. Hopefully more news soon. Meanwhile, in addition to Huub Gulickx -designer and Astrid Bouwman – editor-in-chief, we have recruited two permanent editors: Im Fong Liu – for culture and Peter Gill as tech editor. Im Fong Liu is a publicist and styling teacher, Peter is an engineer and has recently published a book West Meets East about developments in China in the field of innovation, among others.

Perhaps needless to say; the editors and all staff, board and volunteers work unpaid and with pleasure on China NU+ and all activities of the VNC.

For now, I hope you enjoy reading and we as editors would love to hear your thoughts on this new issue. See you later!

On the cover is a beautiful photo taken especially for us by Ruben Lundgren on Oct. 1, 2024.

Ruben Lundgren, 1983, is a Dutch photographer and curator living in Beijing. He has made a name for himself with his work within the conceptual photography duo WassinkLundgren and has received much attention for his publications such as Empty Bottles (2007) and Tokyo Tokyo (2010). Lundgren behaalde zijn master in fotografie aan de Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing in 2011. Als fotojournalist werkt Lundgren voor The Volkskrant and published the book Real Dreams (2021). Door zijn verhuizing naar China is Lundgren zich diepgaand gaan bezighouden met de Chinese hedendaagse fotografie.

Through his work as a curator, he has made major contributions to The Chinese Photobook (2015), in collaboration with Martin Parr, Ellen Thorbecke’s China (2021), for the Nederlands Fotomuseum and China Imagined (2022), for BredaPhoto, together with curator He Yining. His exhibitions are known for their accessibility and attract general audiences as well as photography experts. In the fall of 2025, the Fotomuseum Den Haag will present a major retrospective of his Chinese work.
