Book launch: Taiwan island of versatility

Centuries ago, the original inhabitants traded deer skins with Chinese and Japanese merchants, today Taiwan supplies the microchips that keep our digital world running. Taiwan is a versatile island that is constantly reinventing itself.
On Thursday 23 April, Leiden University Libraries (UBL), in collaboration with Uitgeverij IJzer, is organising a book presentation of three books about Taiwan. The editors talk about the book they edited and talk to each other and the audience.
The three books tell of a diverse society that is constantly reinventing itself. They tell about the original inhabitants of the island, the different groups of Austronesians. They discuss history, the economy and contemporary society. They show something of the rich Taiwanese cuisine and food culture.
