General Membership Meeting

If you are reading this, our General Membership Meeting has already been held. This year we have chosen to hold it in Wageningen. We choose varying locations for our meetings because we are a national association and thus want to be visible throughout our country. Thanks to restaurant Asia Plaza where we were able to meet this year and have lunch at a reduced rate.

Association News

The VNC is 47 years old this year and has seen varying membership numbers, many boards, and diverse activities. We are doing our best with a small club to make an attractive offering of activities, our magazine -which you are reading now- and in the meantime also to professionalize. A new website is in the making. We have an active committee of recommendation, new board members and new volunteers. Everything we do is and will be done by volunteers.

We currently have just under 400 members on file. Often new members sign up after attending one of our activities. Some of the activities in recent months:

Activities

A China Café in Utrecht about Chinese film with Anne-Sytske Keijzer, an evening in Amsterdam with Bettine Vriesekoop about her latest book: ‘Chinese Wisdom in a Ball’. In Eindhoven, in cooperation with the NCRA, we organized an evening with Ed Kronenburg, former ambassador to China. Meanwhile, we got to accompany two delegations from China and attended a number of events in which China played the leading role. In short, the VNC, although middle-aged, is alive and well. If you would like to become more active in our association, please let us know and mail to info@vnc-china.nl

China Cafe

In the next quarter there will again be a China Café in Utrecht: on September 30 with Ruud Peters, former CEO of ‘Philips Intellectual Properties and Standards’, about intellectual property in China, on September 14 we organize a day in The Hague for Chinese ‘expats’ and people of Chinese descent about Dutch culture and on October 3 we want to hold a big China drink in Zwolle for everyone who is professionally involved with China. From August our website and newsletter machine will be up and running again, so : keep an eye on your mail, there is much more to come. VNC mail will be sent digitally, which is faster and cheaper because we also have to keep an eye on expenses.

Magazine

This second digital issue of ChinaNU+ once again contains an array of articles that highlight the three pillars we focus on: Culture and Society, Educational and Scientific, and Economy and Business. You will see; China has not become less important in the past 47 years. Enjoy reading and have a great summer!
