Drs. OEY When Ping was born in the Netherlands, he went to primary school in Jakarta and studied sociology and sinology. In 1975, he traveled to China for the first time with a study group from Tilburg University. Since then, he has visited China dozens of times and experienced China’s change and modernization up close.
During his trips to China, he was able to enjoy hundreds of meals. He was often explained about the specialness, ingredients and preparation method of the dishes. Curious about more knowledge about Chinese cuisine (in China there are 8 main cuisines), Mr. Oey visited training and schools for chefs and was able to take a look in many Chinese kitchens.
In the Chinese restaurants in the Netherlands, in addition to the ‘Chin.-Ind. dishes’, more and more ‘original’ Chinese dishes are being included on the menus and we see (small) specialized restaurants appearing in many cities, which promote dishes from Chinese regions. Curious about this new offer, he started a search for ‘the flavors of China in the Netherlands’. After a while, the idea for the VNC China Eating Club was born: let’s look for the ‘flavors of China in the Netherlands’ together with more people.
Mr. Oey will take you on a journey in the Netherlands to taste the special Chinese dishes and will share his knowledge about Chinese food with you.
