The Netherlands China Association (VNC) is looking for an ambitious and creative communication intern to shape the run-up to our 50th anniversary in 2027.
For almost 50 years, VNC has been striving to bring China closer to the Netherlands by creating an informed dialogue about:
- Culture & Society,
- Business & Economy,
- Education and Science.
At a time when discussions on China are often polarized, VNC aims to strengthen its role as a realistic, engaged and independent platform for knowledge exchange and dialogue.
To support this ambition, we are looking for a student who wants to help us significantly increase our visibility, reach and relevance — especially among younger audiences.
What will you be working on?
You will help shape and execute a communication and content strategy around VNC’s 50th anniversary, especially among a more difficult to reach Gen-Z audience.
This is not a traditional ‘coffee and admin’ internship. We want the internship to be a meaningful project with a visible impact and room for your own ideas and creativity.
Possible projects include:
- Helping to position the VNC for the next generation,
- Creating and editing short video and podcast content for Website, LinkedIn, Instagram and WeChat, etc.,
- Helping to set up our anniversary campaign and events,
- Curate relevant China-related content and trends,
- Support follower growth and engagement from social media.
Depending on your interests and study requirements, the internship may also include:
- Community building,
- Digital storytelling,
- AI-assisted content creation,
- or China-related media analysis.
Who are we looking for?
A student who:
- Studies, Communication, Marketing, Media, International Relations, China Studies or related fields (at HBO/HEAO or university level),
- has a genuine interest in China and international developments,
- is creative, curious and proactive,
- has a proven understanding of social media and digital storytelling,
- has an affinity with video and visual content creation,
- can work independently,
- has strong Dutch and English language skills, both spoken and written,
- Chinese language skills are a plus, but not necessary.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is intellectually curious and enthusiastic about shaping meaningful conversations about China in the Netherlands.
What do we offer?
- A very flexible internship with hybrid work options,
- Considerable room for personal initiative and ownership,
- Direct contact with senior professionals, entrepreneurs and China experts,
- The opportunity to shape an important milestone year for a respected organization
- Access to VNC events and network,
- Coaching and supervision of experienced marketing and communication professionals, including our Chair Monique Knapen, marketing leader Aldo Spaanjaars and member Rogier Bikker.
Practical details
- Location: Hybrid – Remote and our office in The Hague.
- Duration: flexible. At least 2-3 months. Possibility to extend.
- Start date: Q3 2026
- Internship allowance: In consultation
