Newsletter Jan. 7, 2023

First of all, best wishes for this new year which we entered on January 1. January 21 is Chinese New Year; the Year of the Rabbit. In this newsletter you will find information about the celebration of the National Chinese New Year in The Hague for the 19th time. You are all welcome to attend. The VNC supports and helps make this gathering possible. On January 22 – I had announced it before, we will organize a film screening of Kung Fu Lion – the very first film that came about as a result of the Dutch-Chinese co-production treaty. This means that both countries worked together on this film. Froukje Tan is the director and she and several actors will be present during this special screening. The VNC has the scoop and you can be there on Jan. 22 at Pathe Buitenhof (The Hague). There are a limited number of seats so register quickly because “first come, first serve”. After the film there will be a short afterglow and a drink in the ballroom of the cinema. This event has been made possible by a number of sponsors. It is planned to hold an AGM next February, we will notify you of the exact date and place in time (two weeks in advance). I would like to meet you then and tell you about the new plans for the coming year. We will hold this ALV at our office: Burgemeester van Karnebeeklaan 6, The Hague. If you are interested: please register via our email address, we will send you the complete documents. We will also publish them on our website. In addition to our own events, I would also like to inform you that there will soon be a beautiful performance to be seen in many theaters in the Netherlands. A performance that will seem familiar to the lives of many Chinese Dutch people. It is an intimate mother and daughter portrait in the setting of a Chinese-Indian restaurant. A tribute to the women of the older generation who made their way and worked so hard in anonymity. Also a tribute to 100 years of Chinese restaurant in NL. See below for more information about this performance.

In this newsletter you will also find information about the interesting activities in the Verhalenhuis in Rotterdam and about ChinaTimes, a successful Dutch Chinese Newspaper with news in both languages.

Hope to see you soon.
